Valuing the environmental resources of ecosystems will identify and determine their functions, and subsequently the necessity of protecting these ecosystems will become more tangible in terms of economic indicators. Regulatory functions are one of the most important ecosystem services. Soil conservation is one of the most important regulatory functions of ecosystems. The main goal of this research is to economically value the damages caused to natural resources, including soil degradation, and losses resulting from the reduction of regulatory and productive services of vegetation in the Zagros Foothills Highway area. The replacement cost method was used to estimate the economic value of vegetation in carbon sequestration, and the market price method was used to estimate the productive services of vegetation and soil degradation. The present descriptive-applied research aimed to assess the damages caused to natural resources destroyed as a result of the construction of the Zagros Foothills Highway in 1402. Using the economic value of soil formation and GIS map, the volume of soil lost was calculated. The valuation of fodder production was calculated using the opportunity cost method and the carbon sequestration function was calculated using the photosynthesis equation method. The costs of soil erosion were also calculated using the NPK method (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium depletion). he results of the research showed that the most important damage caused by the construction of the Zagros Foothills Highway was related to soil protection functions at 1.944E+12 Rials. The damage caused by the reduction of carbon sequestration by vegetation was 50476992000 Rials, the second most serious damage in the land degradation sector. The damage caused to pastures and wheat production will be 202950000 and 102816000 Rials per year, respectively. Therefore, the total damage caused to natural resources is 1.99E+12 Rials, equal to 33.2 million dollars.
