This investigation aimed to determine the habitat suitability index and the key environmental factors affecting the distribution of Capoeta razii in the Nekarood River during the mid-autumn until late January in 2023. Fish sampling was conducted by electrofishing, and water parameters, including temperature, salinity, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and hydrological parameters like depth, width, bed-rock dimater, velocity, and altitude, were measured in 15 sites. To determine the optimum range of habitat parameters and to calculate the habitat suitability index, HABSEL software was used. 250 fish samples were collected from 11 sites. The largest abundance of fish samples was recorded in site 10 (81 individuals), and no fish sample was found in sites 11, 13, 14, and 15. The correlation analysis showed a reverse and significant correlation between fish abundance with depth and width of the river (p<0.05). Based on HIS results, the fish showed its most habitat suitability where the water flow velocity ranges between 0.6 to 0.75 m/s, depth of 40 to 75 cm, river width of 2 to 4.5 m, electrical conductivity of 400 to 540 μS/cm, salinity of 2 to 2.5 mg/l, dissolved oxygen of 10 to 12.5 mg/l, temperature of 14 to 17 °C, bedrock of 8 to 12 cm, altitude of 0 to 50 m, which are covered by shrubbery and bush. HIS ranged from 0 to 0.85 across the studied sites, indicating that some parts of the river are suitable for this fish's habitat. Findings of this investigation indicated that the habitat suitability of the fish in the Nekarood river results from a precise synergy between hydrological factors such as depth, width, and water flow velocity, and physicochemical parameters including temperature and dissolved oxygen.
